Q & A

No, it is not a hotel, but a luxury residence with eight elegantly furnished apartments for short term rentals, which can go from a minimum of three nights up to several months of stay.

There are five types of apartments starting from 40 sq m and up to 120 sq m  The studios have a kitchenette and bathroom and the largest, the penthouses, have two bedrooms, two living rooms and three bathrooms. Some apartments also have a terrace or balcony.

The building dates back to the beginning of the 15th century and for a long time was owned by the Santissima Annunziata (a religious congregation under the Vatican), as can still be read in two marble epigraphs placed on the façade on the first floor. In the 19th century it was sold to private individuals who made some alterations, in part without authorisation, and later, due to disagreements between the heirs, it was practically abandoned and fell into decay. In 2012, the Mazzi family purchased the building and began a complex and lengthy restoration project, recovering the original structure and using the building partly as their own home and the rest as a residence for guests from all over the world. In order to bring harmony to the design of all the rooms, in addition to taking great care of all the details and furnishings in the rooms, they are also encircled with pieces from Carlo Mazzi’s private collection of antique marble and stone sculptures (from Roman, Medieval and Renaissance periods). Carlo Mazzi continued to enrich his great-great-grandfather’s collection with fragments found at Italian and Swiss antique dealers. Hence the name ‘Palazzo delle Pietre’ (Stone Palace).

The building is located in the historic centre of Rome: all the city’s major monuments are within walking distance. Some of the most famous sights can be found nearby. We are:

  • 300 metres from Piazza Navona,
  • 250 metres from Piazza della Rotonda (Pantheon),
  • 400 metres from Piazza di Pietra,
  • 500 metres from Piazza Colonna,
  • 800 metres from Via Condotti (luxury shopping),
  • 1,000 metres from the Spanish Steps,
  • 1,100 metres from Piazza del Popolo.
  • 1.8 km from Piazza San Pietro, Vaticano.

This is a very special part of the city because it is still characterized by the structure of old Rome with old shops and workshops, which have now disappeared in other parts of the city and generally in large European cities.
